Council undertakes a number of methods to prevent waste from polluting the City's drainage systems, including:

  • Street sweeping
  • Stormwater side entry pit and pipe cleaning
  • Cleaning of open drains
  • Provisions of stormwater pollution traps
  • Sweeping of bicycle tracks and laneways 

Street sweeping is conducted throughout Palmerston. Suburban streets are swept three times per year and major roads are swept four times per year.

  • Main roads:  Every 3 months (quarterly)
  • Local and Industrial Roads: Every 4 months
  • Shared pathways (outside CBD): Monthly
  • Remaining Pathways: Every 4 months
