Stage One: Off-leash Zuccoli Dog Park now open to public!

Stage Two: Skate Park and Pump Track in progress

Prior to works commencing on stage two of the Zuccoli Community Hub, the designs for the civil, landscaping and open space structures will need to occur. A geotechnical investigation took place at the site which provided us with an understanding of the ground components which is crucial for designing safe and stable structures. The civil design has been completed and its anticipated tender for design and construction will be advertised in June 2024.

Cost and funding: $20 million partnership between the City of Palmerston and the Federal and Northern Territory Governments.

Timeframe: The project will be delivered over a 5-year period, commenced in 2022. The development will be split into stages.

Overview

In February 2022, a report was presented to Council, with the final dog park plan receiving endorsement. The dog park aims to differentiate itself from other dog parks in the municipality, with a focus on sensory activities.

Future proposed stages of the entire community hub project include the construction of family friendly and all ages attractions including (not in any particular order):

  • a community event space
  • children’s library
  • community centre
  • bush walking trails
  • a skate park
  • largest pump track in Northern Australia

History

City of Palmerston was awarded a land grant from the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics (DIPL), for the purpose of community infrastructure in Zuccoli. The Crown Land is approximately 46.95 hectares, being part of Lots 12087, 4250and 4251 Town of Palmerston (20Tuckeroo Boulevard Zuccoli, 512 Stuart Highway Johnston and 575 Roystonea Avenue Zuccoli).

The proposed site is to construct a community hub and maintain the Mitchell Creek corridor for conservation and passive recreation purposes.

City of Palmerston further consulted with the community on its proposed concept design from Thursday 7 October to Friday 12 November 2021.

As of 14 December 2021, a report to council provided community consultation feedback. Community feedback was further considered, and where appropriate, incorporated into a final Masterplan draft, that was presented to Council via a report in February 2022 for consideration. Council endorsed proposed solutions.

The overall hub Masterplan has since received Ministerial approval.

Some preliminary clearing of the site will occur in preparation for the public tender. The tender for the dog park construction was live in April 2022 via our City of Palmerston tenders on Tenderlink. The Zuccoli Dog Park including public toilet was completed in 2023.
