TREE DAMAGE AND CLEAN UPS
Our teams are out surveying and photographing damage across the city. Information gathered is sent to contractors who prioritise work in the following order:
• Road access and public safety (including safety of parks and pathways)
• Parks and playgrounds
• Footpaths and laneways
This ensures the most critical areas are made safe first while recovery efforts continue across the community.
Yes, we will clear trees and branches that have fallen within Council property, including on the roads, verges and in parks. There is a significant amount of work in getting this completed and jobs are being triaged based on their potential risk. This may mean some areas are not cleared for a number of weeks.
Please call 08 8935 9922. Reports relating to the cyclone through other channels are not preferred as there may be delays in it being actioned, or additional information required. By calling, we can ensure we have all relevant information and can log it in our system directly.
If you have any non-cyclone related enquiries, these can be reported through normal methods (phone, email, website, app or social media.
Council contractors have been to some locations to clear the roadway which may mean some green waste will be left on the verge if needed. We will be returning to clear the green waste over the coming weeks, including any remediation such as stump removal and topsoil.
Safety is the current priority and Council’s contractors are actioning priority jobs. Repairs and replacements will occur following once the current clearance activities are completed, including roads.
Once roads are clear, normal street sweeping schedule will occur. Street sweepers are not being utilised to collect debris.
Arborists will determine the safest and most practical outcome for fallen trees, this includes consideration of viability of the tree to survive. Some smaller trees that are leaning only may be able to be supported back upright, however the majority of fallen trees will not be viable to be ‘stood up’ and will be removed and replaced (if appropriate) in the future.
Please check our Emergency Management Dashboard, website and/or Facebook for updates.
Recovery from Cyclone Fina may take weeks or even months, depending on the extent of the damage. Once we have completed our surveys and have a complete understanding of what is required, we will be able to provide further information around likely timing.
Mostly. Community facilities, general and recycling waste collection services have resumed. Some residual delays or restrictions may still apply. Services such as mowing are impacted.
Scheduled mowing will most likely be impacted due to on-going wet weather and cyclone clean-up efforts. Some verges and parks cannot be mowed until green waste has been cleared. We understand the grass is growing quickly and will resume scheduled mowing when we are able to.
GREEN WASTE
If you are able to, please take your green waste to Archer Waste Management Facility, open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily. The Northern Territory Hidden Valley waste site may also be an option whilst it’s operating. Information regarding this is available on Secure NT website.
If family, friends or neighbours can assist, that is great. If you have mobility or other limitations, please contact Council.
Residents are asked to keep green waste inside their property lines. This is to keep walkways and access as clear as possible. If you have run out of room and have already placed green waste on the verge, please make sure it’s off the road and any footpath. If possible, please make arrangements for it to be removed or contact us if that’s not possible.
No, green waste should not be put in your recycling bins.
For information related to general waste please see our waste management pages.
