Palmerston began developing in 1980 due to the fast growing population Darwin was experiencing at the time. In 1982, Palmerston welcomed it's first residents, the Potterton family. The first suburbs that were developed were Driver, Gray, Moulden and Woodroffe. Soon after came Rosebery, Bakewell and Gunn. In 1984, the Coles shopping centre was completed, and the municipality has grown rapidly since.
Palmerston is the second largest city in the Northern Territory, with a community predominantly made up of young families, a strong defence population and is a rapidly growing hub for small businesses.
Boasting two water parks, home to a variety of sporting grounds, 18-hole golf course, a large shopping centre, a huge variety of restaurants, and a large industrial area. Palmerston has quickly become the place to go for all Palmerston resident needs, and is very convenient for those living further out of town.
With a strong plan in place for the regions future growth, particularly the economic growth, Palmerston really has become 'A Place for People'.
