Discover the beauty of language through art—created by you!
Word Art is a unique community-driven art initiative which invites library visitors of all ages to take part in shaping a one-of-a-kind public artwork.
How it works
It all starts with a simple question: What’s your favourite word—and why?
The community is invited to the library to invited to fill out a short survey, available from 7-14 May 2025, where they can share their favourite word and the story behind it. Our library staff will help engage the community to gather responses from a wide range of voices and age groups.
We will review all submissions and select a range of words that capture the spirit, diversity, and creativity of the community.
From words to art
The selected words will be brought to life by a professional artist, who will design and fabricate them into bold, visual pieces. These word artworks will be proudly installed on the library’s bulkhead, creating a permanent public display inspired by the community itself.
The gallery exhibition
Contributors whose words are selected will be contacted and celebrated further. Their submissions will become part of a gallery exhibition inside the library's art space honouring the people and stories behind the words. The gallery exhibition will be on display from 21 June 2025.
