City of Palmerston proudly displays flags at the front of Civic Plaza and includes the Australian National Flag, Aboriginal Flag and the Torres Strait Islander Flag. On occasion our Flags are at half mast to show our respect, condolences or acknowledge a significant event in history.
Flags are displayed on our website, app and other communication in acknowledgement of our nation, and our people. Palmerston is a 'Place for People' and we are proud to uphold a community free from bias and discrimination, where all voices are heard and perspectives are celebrated.
Australian Flag

The flag is a strong symbol of Aboriginal identity, culture and rights.

The green in the flag represents land, with the blue representing the sea. The black lines are the people, with the white 'dhari' (traditional headdress) symbolising the Torres Strait Islander culture. The Flag acknowledges and celebrates Torres Strait Islander culture and Identity.

The LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Flag, commonly referred to as the Pride Flag, symbolises the diversity and unity of the LGBTQIA+ community worldwide. Each colour represents a different meaning including red = life, orange = healing, yellow = sunlight, green = nature, blue = harmony, violet = spirit.
