Pets make great companions; they encourage us to stay active and can improve our wellbeing.
If you are living in Palmerston, it is a requirement to register your dog each year.
New cat and dog registrations
To register a new cat or dog in Palmerston, please fill out our form.
New Palmerston residents have a 90-day grace period to register their pet.

Renewing your cat and dog registration
If your cat or dog is already registered with us, you will need to renew their registration by 1 September each year, with a short grace period provided until 30 September.
To renew your cat or dog registration, you will need the seven-digit reference number located in the payment section on your renewal notice.
If you are a concession card holder, call and let us know.
Multiple cat and dog licence
If you have more than two cats or two dogs at your home you'll require a licence.
To obtain a licence, please complete an application.

It's free to update your pet's details. Return the completed notice of change in details form by email, post: PO BOX 1, Palmerston, NT 0831 or in person at Civic Plaza.

Fees and charges
Registration fees are due in September each year and assist us in providing quality animal management services.

We also provide 50% discount for dogs and cats that are desexed. *50% discount will apply for 2024/25 entire cat registration only.

Transferring, rehoming or adopting pets
If you’ve moved to Palmerston from another Northern Territory Council area, your pet’s registration can be transferred across and will remain valid for the rest of the registration period. We also offer free first year registration for dogs and cats adopted from registered rehoming groups.
