City of Palmerston are seeking community feedback on its draft Council policy, FIN02 Rating Policy.

The draft policy states the guiding principles of rating for Palmerston. These principles were accepted and supported by the Community Reference Group, as well as the wider community. These guiding principles were administrative simplicity, economic efficiency, and equity.

The draft policy maintains the current Council rating methodology, that is, an unimproved land valuation assessment with differential rating as well as the use of differential minimum rates. It also provides guidance for the use of special rates.

The draft policy is designed to provide the methodology and principles of rating and is not designed to state the quantum of rates or the rate mix to be levied. This decision is undertaken as part of the
annual budget process.

Feedback for this consultation closed on Tuesday 24 March 2020. Council is now considering feedback provided.
