Lindsay Miles is a renowned author, speaker and waste educator who focuses on waste reduction for more sustainable lifestyles and business practices and is bringing her expertise to Palmerston in celebration of World Environment Day.

Lindsay’s series of interactive talks offer plenty of opportunities to ask questions so everyone can learn something new. We want you to gain a few new ideas and skills, apply them to your everyday life, and contribute to a more sustainable future!

Sunday 4 June

Composting, Worm Farms & Bokashi

Time: 10:00am - 12:00pm


This session is perfect for anyone keen to learn about more sustainable food consumption and gardening practices for their home.

Lindsay will cover all the options for reducing food waste at home: different types of home compost bins, different worm farm systems, and bokashi buckets. The session covers what is best for different types of homes, options for those without a garden, and services available for those without much free time.

How I Live a Plastic-Free Life

Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm


This session is perfect for anyone wanting to learn how to reduce their plastic use, or those starting out on their plastic-free journey.

Lindsay will share experiences from her own personal journey, from signing up to Plastic Free July in 2012, to her plastic-free life today. The session will explore the choices and challenges around reducing plastic consumption in everyday life, and offer useful tips to reduce plastic consumption straight away.

Monday 5 June

Low/Zero Waste on a Budget

Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm 


This session is perfect for anyone interested in reducing their waste footprint without spending a fortune.

Lindsay will challenge common consumption habits and offer ideas to make small changes that have big impacts. The session will offer budget-friendly options to avoid single-use packaging, and explore the importance of the ‘sharing economy’.

Tuesday 6 June

Reuse: Embracing the Circular Economy

Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm


This session is perfect for small business owners, entrepreneurs and other community members interested in making their business operations more sustainable.

Lindsay will explore the limitations of our current economic system, including recycling, and introduce the circular economy concept. The session will cover ways for anyone to become part of the reuse revolution, and ways that businesses are now operating more sustainably.
