Citizen of the Year
Veronica Matipira
Veronica has been acknowledged for her extensive volunteer work across the NT and her contribution to the Palmerston community as the Zimbabwean Association Committee President, a mentor and social worker.
Her voluntary work with the Zimbabwean Community has demonstrated her selflessness, phenomenal leadership skills and her commitment to providing positive role models within the community, including helping in the organisation of a number of successful community events. She is part of the Australian African Federation Association, where she works with other leaders to support community members in and around Darwin and Palmerston, as well as the Multicultural Advisory Committee and the Multicultural Council of the NT.
Young Citizen of the Year
Isabelle Craven
Isabelle is an outstanding representative for the young people of Palmerston and the NT. Her involvement in the City of Palmerston’s Urban Jams events, membership on the Palmerston Youth Festival Working Group, Youth Media Team and playing a key role in supporting the development for Youth Employment and Training Pathway Opportunities, has demonstrated her incredible creative and leadership skills.
She is a promising future leader for the Palmerston community and has won a multitude of awards including the SACE Board of Studies Excellence in Creative Art, School Based Apprentice of the Year (Cert III in Business), School Excellence in Visual Arts and many other creative arts awards.
Community Event of the Year
ZIMPRIDE - Zimbabwean Community
The Zimbabwean Community held their annual ZIMPRIDE Soccer Tournament which saw communities from Palmerston, Darwin, Katherine and as far as Alice Springs, come together to share their love of soccer.
The event was held at Palmerston's Gray Oval and was hailed a great success. With various men's and women's soccer teams from all different backgrounds participating, drawing crowds of support from families and friends.
The event supported the health and well being of the community and encouraged
unity and togetherness with over 300 people in attendance.
