City of Palmerston’s draft 2025-26 Municipal Plan has been released for community feedback today.

The Municipal Plan describes how Council will allocate its budget and what services, programs and projects it intends to undertake to build on City of Palmerston’s vision as ‘A Place for People’ to live, work, invest and visit.

As the fastest growing city in the Northern Territory, the coming financial year will see Council continue to work towards the delivery of community-shaping facilities, including construction of the Zuccoli Community Hub Stage 2, various playground refurbishments, and an expansive range of services and initiatives relied upon by our community.

Municipal Plan highlights include:

  • Free parking, free facility hire, and free entry to SWELL
  • $6.60 million total capital works spend
  • $1.44 million roads capital program
  • $650,000 for play space renewals and upgrades
  • $607,328 for maintaining our pathways and laneways
  • $100,000 for arts and culture
  • $350,000 for animal management facility upgrades
  • $311,000 for public lighting
  • $250,000 in funding through our Community Funding Program
  • Implementation of City of Palmerston’s Reconciliation Action Plan
  • 500 new trees

In developing this year’s draft budget, Council has focused on maintaining service levels, events and programs, rather than committing to new projects that may require additional funding. Efforts have been undertaken to reduce rising operational costs being passed on to our community. This equates to a $68.16 rates increase to 68% of residential property owners in Palmerston. The average increase for the majority of residential rate payers is $1.30 per week. There will also be a $55 waste service charge increase.

The draft 2025-26 Municipal Plan can be viewed online, at Civic Plaza, City of Palmerston Library or the Palmerston Recreation Centre.

Community members are encouraged to contribute to the decision-making process from 16 April to 13 May 2025. Join the conversation at palmerston.nt.gov.au/community-engagement

Quote attributed to Acting Mayor Damian Hale

“As Palmerston continues to grow and evolve, it’s important we present a Municipal Plan that reflects this. We are committed to ensuring high standards of service delivery and will continue to support the community through free facility hire and entry to SWELL, free community events and support for local businesses.”

“Our community is at the centre of all we do, and we take every opportunity to consult with our residents and involve them in decision-making. I encourage the community to read Council’s draft Municipal Plan and provide feedback to ensure we continue to meet the needs and expectations of the community.”
