City of Palmerston’s new state-of-the-art Swimming, Wellness, Events, Leisure and Lifestyle (SWELL) precinct is set to officially open on the first weekend of the school holidays Sunday, 17 December 2023!

With new structures up, including the much-anticipated adventure play zone, SWELL has hit all major milestones as it gets ready to open in time for the school holidays.

Get ready to eat, play and escape the heat with the facility’s impressive investment of over $1M worth of shade infrastructure. This innovative design prioritises safety by affording community members the ability to control their exposure to the intense Territory sun, promising a cooler and more secure environment for all.

Inclusivity was a fundamental aspect of the project, and SWELL proudly introduces Territory-first amenities, including accessible ramps to both 20m and 50m pools and an accessible adult change facility, ensuring that the entire community can fully enjoy the space.

The $19.4 million SWELL precinct is Palmerston’s largest infrastructure project to date and will deliver exciting features new to the Territory, including:

-    A two-storey water adventure playzone, with a high ropes course for the young and young at heart. The adventure playground has a mix of water-based features and physical challenge elements. Adventurers will be harnessed in as they traverse the course maintaining safety in a fun environment.
-    Cutting edge Myrtha pool lining all the way from Italy to ensure the 50-metre pool is fit-for-purpose.
-    Accessibility ramps in both the 20m and 50m pools and an accessible adult change facility, underlining City of Palmerston’s commitment to inclusivity.
-    A splash and play zone
-    3 fully shaded pools to provide something for everyone.
-    A basketball half-court
-    FREE entry for everyone, a commitment by Council until 2026.

The new complex will be an important asset for the community, and the redevelopment will offer a range of activities for the whole family.

City of Palmerston is proud to deliver on its vision for an aquatic lifestyle precinct unlike any other in the Top End, with the brand new facility offering something for everyone in the community.

The project is backed and funded by the Northern Territory Government contributing $7.5 million, Australian Government, with $5 million secured through the Building Better Regions Fund, and City of Palmerston contributing $6.9 million.
