Dog Registration


Pets make great companions, encourage us to stay active and can improve our wellbeing.

If you are living in the Palmerston municipality, your dog must be registered annually. Cats do not need to be registered in Palmerston.

Fees and Charges

Registration fees are due on 1 September each year and assist us in providing quality animal management services.

The fee schedule can be found here.

If you have moved to Palmerston from any other Northern Territory council, City of Palmerston will happily transfer the remainder of the registration period free of charge where evidence of current registration is provided.

Microchipping and desexing

We offer subsidised microchipping and desexing for Palmerston pet owners on request.

  • Concession card holders can receive a voucher to cover the total cost of microchipping and/or desexing
  • All other residents can receive a voucher covering $120 of the total cost.

Please note, dogs must be registered with Council to be eligible and any extra surgery costs are not covered.

Rehomed and adopted dogs

Council offers free registration for dogs that have been adopted through registered rehoming groups for the first year of ownership. Read more about this incentive.
