City of Palmerston’s Tropical Cyclone Fina clean-up is progressing steadily, and our team continues to work efficiently to ensure a full recovery for the Palmerston community.

All high-priority clean-up jobs have now been completed, allowing contractors to move systematically through the suburbs to continue recovery works. Our tree-removal contractors have now finished in multiple suburbs, and Essington Park, which was our only closed park, has re-opened. We are on track to have our most impacted suburbs of Gray, Driver, Moulden, Gunn, Woodroffe and Durack fully cleared before Christmas. The remaining suburbs will be completed early in the new year, along with the final rectification of damaged infrastructure.

To fully clear each suburb, crews are focusing on the removal of small debris, damaged trees, and remaining stumps across public infrastructure areas, including high-traffic routes and community parks. In total there were over 1000 reports logged from both Council’s survey teams and the public. Of those, over 400 have been completed and closed in our system.

Council will complete a final sweep removing hazards from footpaths and verges over the coming weeks. Anyone who requires assistance or has any queries around the removal of material from verges is encouraged to contact City of Palmerston on 08 8935 9922.

City of Palmerston has launched a live Cyclone Fina Recovery Map, where residents can track the progress in each suburb. The map can be accessed on City of Palmerston’s website, along with information on our frequently asked questions, including how to contact us for assistance.

Acting Mayor Damian Hale quote:

“I am very proud that the team has been able to action and complete so many cyclone related reports in such an effective and efficient way. There is a process in place for a reason, and I’d like to thank the community for their patience while they have let the staff do their jobs. Responding to any emergency is not an easy task, and I commend the team in leading the way, and the community for their resilience.”
