Palmerston residents are being encouraged to get their homes and properties ready for the 2026–27 wet season, with City of Palmerston’s annual Pre-cyclone Clean Up returning through September and October 2026.
The annual hard waste collection gives residents an opportunity to remove unwanted larger household items that could pose a potential hazard during a cyclone or severe storm.
City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell said the Pre-cyclone Clean Up was an important part of the community’s preparation for the wet season.
“Preparing for the wet season is something we can all play a part in, and the Pre-cyclone Clean Up gives Palmerston residents an opportunity to clear unwanted items from around their homes before the cyclone season begins,” Mayor Pascoe-Bell said.
“By preparing early and securing items around our properties, we can all help keep our homes, families and community safer during severe weather.”
The clean-up will be delivered across four (4) zones, with collection commencing progressively from the scheduled start date for each zone.
Collection schedule:
Zone 1 – Marlow Lagoon, Driver and Moulden
Collection starts Monday, 21 September
Zone 2 – Bellamack, Rosebery, Woodroffe and Bakewell
Collection starts Monday, 28 September
Zone 3 – Gray, Gunn, Palmerston CBD and Durack
Collection starts Monday, 5 October
Zone 4 – Johnston, Zuccoli and Farrar
Collection starts Monday, 12 October
Residents are asked to place eligible items neatly on their verge the weekend before their scheduled collection week.
Residents are encouraged to group similar materials together, such as furniture, metal and white goods, to help collection crews work efficiently and support Council’s efforts to divert materials from landfill where possible.
Eligible items include household white goods, air conditioners, e-waste, steel, bicycles, furniture and household building materials. Residents are reminded that green waste, tyres, batteries, paint, oils, chemicals and other hazardous waste are not accepted as part of the Pre-cyclone Clean Up.
Assisted pick-up available
Council recognises that some community members may need assistance getting larger items to the verge.
An assisted pick-up service is available for residents who require help. Residents needing assistance are asked to contact Council at least one week before collection commences in their zone to allow time for arrangements to be made.
Residents can track the progress of the clean-up in their area through Council’s online map, with updates also shared through the City of Palmerston website and social media channels.
