City of Palmerston is inviting residents, families and community groups to roll up their sleeves and help care for Palmerston’s natural spaces, joining communities across Australia taking part in Clean Up Australia’s Great Spring Clean Up, previously known as the Great Northern Clean Up.
The community clean-up will take place on Sunday 13 September from 8am to 10am at Hobart Park, Johnston, with everyone welcome to get involved.
The annual event brings the Palmerston community together to remove litter and help keep the city clean, green and liveable.
City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell said the Great Spring Clean Up is an opportunity for residents to care for their local area and connect with others.
“Our parks and open spaces are where families play, neighbours meet and people enjoy time outdoors. Keeping them free of litter helps ensure everyone can continue to enjoy these shared spaces,” Mayor Pascoe-Bell said.
“Palmerston residents take pride in where they live, and the Great Spring Clean Up is a chance to put that pride into action. We encourage everyone to come along, lend a hand and enjoy a morning with their community.”
Volunteers will be treated to a complimentary BBQ breakfast and coffee following the clean-up as a thank-you for their contribution.
Gloves, sunscreen and insect repellent will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a hat and water bottle and wear closed-in footwear.
Students who participate can also request a certificate of participation to support their resume or community involvement records.
