City of Palmerston Council, staff and the Palmerston community extend their deepest condolences to the families, loved ones and all those affected by the horrific events at Bondi Beach yesterday.

Acting Mayor Damian Hale said the tragedy had deeply impacted communities across the country. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they endure unimaginable grief and trauma. This senseless and barbaric act has shaken Australians everywhere,” Mr Hale said.

The Acting Mayor also paid tribute to the bravery and compassion shown by first responders and members of the public. “We sincerely thank the police, paramedics, health workers, emergency services and members of the public who responded with extraordinary courage and selflessness in the face of danger. Their actions reflect the very best of our community and our nation,” he said.

Mr Hale acknowledged the profound impact such events have on community leaders and those supporting others through the aftermath. “At this time, we call for strength, unity and resilience for all community leaders and frontline workers who are carrying the responsibility of supporting their communities through grief and shock. The effects of this tragedy are felt far beyond one place,” he said.

He highlighted City of Palmerston’s diversity and shared values. “Palmerston is a proud, multicultural city – a place where people from many cultures, faiths and backgrounds live, work and grow together. Our diversity is our strength, and our community is built on respect, inclusion and care for one another, creating ‘A Place for People’. To our local community, we want you to know that we stand with you, we stand for unity, and reject hatred and violence in all its forms,” Mr Hale said.

“City of Palmerston stands in solidarity with the Bondi community and with all Australians affected by this tragedy. We encourage our residents to continue to support one another and to draw strength from the compassion and connection that define our city,” he said.
