Northern Territory Youth Week will take place from 6 -16 April. It’s a time to celebrate and bring opportunities to the generation that will lead us into the future. It provides attention to young people’s voices, ideas, and potential.

City of Palmerston is working with the NT’s Office of Youth Affairs to help celebrate and acknowledge our youth. NT Youth Week is an opportunity to highlight the importance that young people play in our community.

During this week Council will be hosting Urban Jams on Friday 14 April at the Palmerston Recreation Centre. Urban Jams brings together a range of activities including 3x3 basketball, DJ, cultural activities, street art, e-sports, game development showcase, puppet making and more. The event caters to youth of all ages and abilities and provides access to service providers, career paths, and social and sporting organisations.

Council is also supporting a new event for the week - PowerPoint Party, a fun and interactive event where participants create short and humorous presentations on topics of their choice. It provides a space for our youth to practice public speaking and encourages creativity, humour, and learning in a lighthearted setting.

City of Palmerston Mayor, Athina Pascoe-Bell, said Council is thrilled to be working with the Northern Territory Government to bring Territorians aged 12-25 together to celebrate their achievements and provide them opportunities to learn new skills and network.
“We are proud of the work we do with Palmerston youth and continue to aim on creating a safe environment that welcomes and is inclusive for all young people. Currently we work with youth through the Palmerston and Rural Youth Services Network, Youth Media Team, and Palmerston Youth Action Plan.

Celebrating and providing opportunities for the youth in our community doesn’t stop at the end of this week, we will continue to work with and for them into the future. ” she said.
