On 26 January 2021, City of Palmerston will welcome the country’s newest residents with a special Citizenship Ceremony, an official Flag Raising Ceremony, and present the City’s Australia Day Award winners.

With our vision for Palmerston being ‘A Place for People’, the Australia Day Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge and recognise the selfless efforts of individuals and groups within our community who actively embrace this vision.
Categories for the 2021 awards are as follows:

o    Citizen of the Year,
o    Young Citizen of the Year; and
o    Community Event of the Year.

Join us at the Palmerston Recreation Centre from 1:00pm - 3:00pm, as we celebrate the achievements of our community.

The free public event will include a traditional Welcome to Country, followed by the official raising of the National Flag of Australia and special performances by local artists, Crocodile Country and the Northwind Didj Orchestra.

Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell says, “the Australia Day Awards are a significant event and give us the chance to publicly thank the people in Palmerston who make such a valuable contribution to our community.”

Australia Day is an opportunity for us to reflect on our nation’s past; a history which began more than 65,000 years ago with the First Australians. A day on which we respect and share stories, history, and contributions of everyday Australians.

This event is proudly sponsored by the Australia Day Council, Northern Territory.
