In early 2019, Council began trialling treatments in 11 laneways across three Palmerston suburbs to discourage the occurrence of anti-social behaviour. Spatial mapping was used to identify the laneways most suitable for the trial based on a combination of lighting assessments, police reports, resident feedback and site inspections.
These treatments have now been in place for a number of months and included the following:
1 Manson Court to Bonson Terrace – Lighting upgrade
2 Bonson Terrace to Staghorn Court – Lighting upgrade
3 Staghorn Court to Gumnut Way – Lighting upgrade with motion sensor and motorbike treatment
4 Staghorn Court to Livistona Park – Lighting upgrade with motion sensor
5 Gumnut Way to Livistona Park – Lighting upgrade with motion sensor
6 Livistona Park to Melastoma Drive – Lighting upgrade with motion sensor and motorbike treatment
7 Politis Court to Strawbridge Park – Temporary night-time closure and motorbike treatment
8 Politis Court to Strawbridge Crescent – Temporary night-time closure and motorbike treatment
9 Priest Circuit to Phineaus Court – Lighting upgrade
10 Priest Circuit to Emery Avenue – Lighting upgrade with motion sensor
11 Helio Court to Sibbald Park – Temporary night-time closure
During Stage 1 of the consultation, Council spoke to residents to gather feedback on how people use the laneways before the treatments were put in place.
Council is now progressing with Stage 2 of the consultation which will be open from 1 August 2019 and conclude on 22 August 2019. Your feedback will help Council evaluate the effect of these treatments and help to inform future treatments in other laneways.
We encourage you to provide your feedback by completing the short survey below.
A report will be presented to Council in September detailing the outcomes of the consultation and recommendations for treatments into the future not only for the existing trial laneways, but for additional laneways across Palmerston. These recommendations will also be informed by data gathered from NT Police about instances of anti-social behaviour.
If you would like to discuss the consultation or have any other questions relating to the trial, please contact Council by email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 08 8935 9922.
