Tonight, Council determined to consult with the community on its future waste demands, ahead of the upcoming renewal of its kerbside waste collection contract. 

Palmerston residents will have the opportunity to consider two options regarding service levels of kerbside waste collection and provide feedback to assist Council’s informed decision-making.

City of Palmerston Mayor, Athina Pascoe-Bell believes this is an opportunity for Council to look at better ways to manage waste in our area and seek valuable input from the community

“As the current contract nears completion, Council has an opportunity to undertake an evaluation of its waste collection services, with a view to providing a service level that meets residents’ needs and expectations,” she said.

Council will seek tender submissions for the provision of two levels of service: one to maintain the current level of service and another, alternative service of larger bins being collected less frequently (outline below). 

“Based on the proposals provided by tender, Council will be able to consult extensively with the community as to what service levels they would prefer, highlight additional costs if any and possible changes that could occur to the scheduling of services,” said Mayor Pascoe-Bell. 

Tenders will be sought shortly, with public consultation to occur in October 2018.
