Palmerston residents have jumped on board Council’s new initiative for a Community Christmas Lights Competition.

Christmas lights in Palmerston has always been a draw card to visit not just for locals, but for people from the Darwin and rural areas. This year City of Palmerston wanted to provide an extra incentive for residents to get festive.  There’s no mistake that the last couple of years have been tough, however with travel still seen as a bit of a risk, many are opting to stick around this Christmas. The Christmas Lights initiative provides everyone with a bit of ‘light’ and hopefully spreads a bit more festive spirit.

Residents were asked to put up their best light displays and register in the competition where they could win a massive $2000! Voting in the competition is open from 8th until the 19th December with the winner’s announced on the 21st December. Palmerston is inviting everyone to come and view all of the Christmas Lights around Palmerston, including the ones that have registered in the competition.

City of Palmerston Mayor, Athina Pascoe-Bell is looking forward to viewing all the Christmas lights

“Christmas in Palmerston is always such a joyful time of year and I can’t wait to take my kids around to view all of the Christmas Lights. It really is a highlight for our family, and I wish everyone the best of luck in the competition, there are some very impressive displays”

The Community Christmas Lights Competition is open for voting via the website now https://www.palmerston.nt.gov.au/christmaslights. Anyone can vote, either directly from the site, or open the live map to plan your route and vote directly from there.
The house with the most votes will win ‘People’s Choice Award’ worth $2000. There are two randomly drawn prizes worth $500 each.

Voting closes 19 December 2021.

The competition compliments City of Palmerston’s Christmas Wonderland event which is held in Goyder Square from 17th – 24th December open from 5-9:30pm every day. Christmas Wonderland is set to bring huge crowds this year. For more information see the website https://palmerston.nt.gov.au/christmas or follow @cityofpalmerston on Facebook and Instagram.
