City of Palmerston is launching an 8-week program of creative workshops to compliment the newly revitalised Durack Community Arts Centre.

Palmerston’s first purpose-built art and culture facility provides community members with the opportunity to engage in, and enjoy art activities, as well as providing an amenity to support local artists and creative enterprises. The Arts Centre is available for the community to hire, and offers a dedicated space to gather, create and celebrate the arts and culture sector. 

This City of Palmerston program supports art organisations to operate at a reduced cost. It also offers residents the opportunity to access local art classes, at a subsidised price, providing new avenues for social and cultural interaction, as well as sharing skills and learning from one another.

The creative workshops will be held from 16 September - 10 November and will involve activities such as painting, ceramics, jewellery making to block printing. 

City of Palmerston Mayor, Athina Pascoe Bell, encourages the community to join in on the activation of the Durack Community Arts Centre.

“Whether you are a professional artist of any kind or just enjoy getting creative as a hobby, this space caters for everyone.

Council place high importance on promoting and celebrating the diverse arts and cultures within our community, and the newly improved centre fosters exactly that,” she said.

Workshop holder, Bodil Conroy, shares her excitement to be part of the program.

“It has been such a pleasure working with City of Palmerston and I am very happy to see their initiatives in the arts sector and making art affordable. Art is so important for everyone and provides a balance. It helps relax, be calm and nourishes us,” she added.
