The City of Palmerston have awarded the management and operations contract for the Palmerston Swimming and Fitness Centre to Belgravia Pty Ltd.

The five-year contract was awarded at a total contract value of $1,834,116 (excluding GST), commencing 1 July 2021. The submission from Australian owned company Belgravia Leisure, includes a partnership with the Palmerston and Regional Basketball Association (PaRBA).

Council is renaming the facility ‘SWELL’ (Swimming, Wellness, Events, Leisure, Lifestyle) in line with undertaking a major renewal of the facility, expected to commence in the second half of 2021. The upgrade will introduce several significant new water bodies and amenities.

As a part of the contract, Council will continue to offer free entry to the aquatic components (such as entry to the pool, use of the adventure zone and children’s waterplay area) of the centre. Other fees and charges will be determined on an annual basis.

City of Palmerston Mayor, Athina Pascoe-Bell says the awarding of the operations tender is a key step in the establishment of SWELL.

“I congratulate Belgravia Leisure on their successful application and look forward to partnering with them to deliver the new and improved SWELL precinct to the Palmerston and wider community.

“The centre already plays such an important role in our community, and the renewal will only further this by creating a contemporary, accessible, and most importantly, fun facility for all!” she said.

Nick Cox, CEO Belgravia Leisure, says, “We are excited to be a part of the City of Palmerston’s journey to deliver its vision for SWELL: to create A Place for People. This means tapping into the wisdom of the Palmerston community to provide them with a place where they can not only meet their health and fitness goals, but also spend time together as a community.

“We look forward to collaborating with our partner Palmerston and Regional Basketball Association (PaRBA), a leading supplier of youth activities in Palmerston. Through our partnership, we will be able to provide employment opportunities at SWELL. We believe in the importance of local employment and are committed to training and mentoring youth in the community to provide pathways for employment in the leisure and fitness industry.”

The current Palmerston pool management and operations contract expires on the 30 June 2021, with the centre currently managed by the YMCA NT on behalf of Council. The City of Palmerston thanks YMCA NT for their service to the Palmerston community and wishes them the best for their future operations.
