The Palmerston water tower has been lit up in yellow lighting to raise awareness of National Road Safety Week. 

The week runs from 15 – 22 November each year to encourage road users to drive so others survive. 

City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe – Bell said that Council continues to invest in fit for purpose infrastructure which includes improving Palmerston’s roads and footpaths, as well as making school zones safer. 

“In the last financial year, City of Palmerston resurfaced 6.3 kilometres of roads to improve road safety outcomes and upgraded 2152 metres of pathways to make it safer for Palmerston residents to walk and travel by bike, scooter or wheelchair.

“We have also recently finished the installation of 13 Electronic Speed Limit Signs at Palmerston schools in collaboration with the Northern Territory Government to slow down traffic in school zones,” said the Mayor. 

Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics and Local Member for Drysdale Eva Lawler, said that the Territory Government is raising awareness of road safety in the Territory.

“Education is a key part of the Northern Territory Government’s Towards Zero Action Plan, that is why we’re funding initiatives that will raise awareness in our communities at the grass-roots level.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility – we all deserve to get home safe.”

So far, there have been 26 lives lost on NT roads.
