City of Palmerston’s greening projects are blossoming with the contract for final stage of landscaping works along Temple Terrace awarded to local company, Sterling NT Pty Ltd following a competitive tender process. 

Project works involve the continuation of tree and dryland grass planting, and irrigated garden beds between Kafcaloudes Crescent and Tilston Avenue.

The project is benefitting from an accelerated delivery timeframe thanks to the Special Community Assistance and Local Employment (SCALE) grant. The project was originally to be delivered over four years but on completion of this stage the project would be delivered in a total of 18 months.

The work under SCALE has been created in partnership between City of Palmerston and the Northern Territory Government to deliver a total of $1 million across seven exciting community projects. Council accepted the $743,700 in grant funding in May and has contributed an additional $256,300 to bolster the budget. 

Bringing these works forward will guarantee an immediate stimulus to the Palmerston local economy injecting some $547,000 and create up to 15 jobs during construction for Territorians. 

A further SCALE project will see the planting of an additional 300 trees along sections of Temple Terrace and Chung Wah Terrace to enhance the streetscape and green the City.
 
This budding project follows the completion of Council’s landscaping beautification projects, Zuccoli Parade (between Lambrick Avenue and Vitex Street) and Stage 1 Temple Terrace (between Chung Wah Terrace and Kafcaloudes Crescent). The two projects totalled $1.1 million and have made a significant visual and environmental impact. 

Across the two sites, more than 3,000 bedding plants and 400 trees were planted, along with 2,200 square metres of irrigated lawn and groundcovers and 8,700 square metres of dryland grass. Other improvements as part of the projects included upgrading median strips and roundabouts and installing irrigation across verges.
