Palmerston Alderman Amber Garden commenced her role as the City’s new Deputy Mayor today, following the conclusion of Alderman Lucy Morrison’s five-month tenure in the position.

Deputy Mayor Garden will perform this role until 23 October 2020 (inclusive) after being elected by her Council colleagues at the Ordinary Meeting on 7 April 2020.

“I feel privileged to be elected as Deputy Mayor so I can continue supporting our community during these new and difficult times,” Deputy Mayor Garden said. 

“As a Territorian for more than 17 years, it has been amazing to see our community come together and support each other more than ever.”

“Council is adapting and looking at new ways of working and our commitment to making Palmerston a place for people remains strong.” 

Elected Members endorsed the terms for the Deputy Mayor role to be a five-month position at the first ordinary meeting to allow all Aldermen an opportunity to fill the role. 

City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell is delighted to see Alderman Garden elected as Council new Deputy Mayor. 

“During her time as Alderman, Deputy Mayor Garden has dedicated herself to listening and assisting our community, especially as the Chair of the Palmerston Animal Management Advisory Committee and I know she will bring this same passion and purpose to her new role,” Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell said. 

“On behalf of Council, we officially welcome Amber to her new posting and thank Alderman Morrison for her service over the past five months.”
