The City of Palmerston Library will reopen to the public on Friday 15 May 2020 from 12.00pm, in line with the Northern Territory Government’s COVID-19 Road Map.

City of Palmerston will also implement its decision to offer extended hours from Monday 18 May 2020. The Library will be open an extra six hours per week to provide flexible visiting times and to allow for physical distancing.

Monday to Thursday: 9.00am – 6.00pm
Friday: 10.00am – 8.00pm
Saturday: 10.00am – 1.00pm
Sunday: 1.00pm – 4.00pm

City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell said the Library is a valuable community resource and these changes will make us the most accessible library in the Northern Territory.

“Our extended library hours mean people will have more flexibility to use the facility when it suits them and when they feel most comfortable,” she said.

“We know our members will be looking forward to visiting the Palmerston Library and participating in library programs again, and we are working to resume these as soon as possible and in a safe way”, Mayor Pascoe-Bell added.

Library programs such as Code Club, Digital Literacy and Gadgets & Games will resume while adhering to all guidelines. Storytime Online will continue streaming on the City of Palmerston Library Facebook page so families can continue to enjoy tales read by Palmerston locals.
To adhere to physical distancing requirements, a limit of 100 visitors in the Library at any one time will be in place, and a limit of 18 people in the Library foyer. Computer use will also be limited.

In line with Northern Territory Government advice, community and training rooms will remain closed until 12.00 noon on Friday 5 June 2020.

The Palmerston Recreation Centre will remain closed, with reopening planned for Friday 5 June 2020. Council offices will also reopen to the public on Friday 15 May from 12.00 noon.
Upon reopening, the Library will also commence offering Council services, such as assisting customers with enquiries, payments of rates and dog registrations.
