City of Palmerston is encouraging residents and businesses to beautify their verges through a new Council initiative.
Palmerston residents and businesses will have the opportunity to be supplied with free topsoil and grass seed to improve their street verge as part of Council’s new Verge Beautification Assistance Program.
A street verge’s primary function is to provide a space for facilities and services such as footpaths, cycle ways, bus stops, power and gas easements, telecommunications and streetlighting.
Well designed and maintained verges can provide social, economic and environmental benefits for the community, including increased street appeal, public safety and water runoff management.
The program will be available in the 2020 dry season, with information made available on verge care, design, suitable plants and materials for residents and businesses.
