Palmerston Alderman Lucy Morrison will become the City’s next Deputy Mayor, having been elected by her Council colleagues at Council’s ordinary meeting on 19 November 2019.
Alderman Morrison will be Council’s Deputy Mayor from Sunday 22 December 2019 to Friday 22 May 2020 (inclusive).
At its first ordinary meeting as the newly elected Council, Elected Members endorsed the terms for the position of Deputy Mayor to be for a period of five months, allowing the opportunity for all Aldermen to perform the duty.
On acceptance, Alderman Morrison thanked the Elected Members for their support.
“It’s a great opportunity to be undertaking my turn in the Deputy Mayor position. I’m excited about the good work this Council is doing and the great initiatives we have put in place, such as allowing free entry into the Palmerston pool, undertaking comprehensive studies into the laneway trials, upgrading our streetlights to a more efficient system and the ongoing work we’re doing for the people of Palmerston.”
“I am looking forward to continuing to serve the community in this new role.”
City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell congratulated Alderman Morrison on her appointment.
“On behalf of Council I congratulate Alderman Morrison on her appointment as the upcoming Deputy Mayor. I know she will continue to represent the Palmerston community with great dignity and pride.”
“I also would like to thank outgoing Deputy Mayor Ben Giesecke for his support and hard work during his time in the position,” Mayor Pascoe-Bell added.
