The City of Palmerston Library, in conjunction with Drag Territory will be the first library in the Northern Territory to host Drag Queen Storytime.
Drag Queen Storytimes are becoming increasingly popular in libraries worldwide, as a fun way of helping LGBTQI+ children and families feel recognised, valued and included within their communities.
“The City of Palmerston is a place for all people, and we pride ourselves on being able to provide events and activities that promote inclusion to all members of our community”, said Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell.
“Through our consultations and community planning sessions, the need for more LGBTQI+ inclusive events was highlighted and Drag Queen Storytime is a great opportunity to provide this in a fun and family-friendly atmosphere.”
Local Top End Queens Prawn Cracker Spice and Vouge will read age-appropriate children’s stories and songs, which promote the values of inclusion and acceptance for all people.
Drag Queen Storytimes are being held as separate events, in addition the Library’s regular Storytime sessions on Saturday 22 June at 10am and Friday 5 July at 10am. Everyone is welcome.
