City of Palmerston is inviting the community to come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week at Day 5: Deadly: NAIDOC Celebration, a free afternoon of live music, culture and hands-on activities as part of Palmerston Youth Festival.

Held on Wednesday, 8 July, from 3 pm to 5 pm at Goyder Square, the event celebrates the rich cultures, histories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, creating a welcoming space for people of all ages to connect, learn and celebrate together.

The program features live performances from Marranungu hip-hop artist Yung Milla, Palmerston's own Riley P and emerging local performers from Young Mob. Visitors can also enjoy free cultural activities including weaving, clap stick making, cultural cooking, dot painting and designing their own NAIDOC shirt.

Adding to this year's program is a cultural fashion show by Bamalang Mob Productions, a First Nations-led modelling and community engagement agency that celebrates Indigenous culture while creating culturally safe spaces and meaningful opportunities for emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives.

Acting Mayor Wayne Bayliss said the event was an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate culture and strengthen connections.

"NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate one of the world's oldest cultures and recognise the stories, achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples."

"Deadly: NAIDOC Celebration brings our community together through music, culture and shared experiences. It's a chance to learn from one another, celebrate together and continue building the respectful relationships that are at the heart of our Reconciliation Action Plan."

Palmerston Youth Festival delivers seven days of free events and activities for young people, families and the wider community. Deadly: NAIDOC Celebration highlights the importance of recognising and celebrating First Nations cultures while creating opportunities for connection, understanding and community pride.

Palmerston Youth Festival is proudly brought to you by City of Palmerston and supported by the Northern Territory Government.
