Palmerston’s largest infrastructure project to date, SWELL (Swimming, Wellness, Events, Leisure and Lifestyle), is transforming the Palmerston Swimming Pool into a wellness hub built for fun, fitness and relaxation. This $19.4 million project is in line with Council’s vision of ‘A place for people’ and is partnering with the Australian Government and Northern Territory Government to deliver the state-of-the-art aquatic lifestyle precinct, unlike any other in the Territory.
 
The SWELL project will include the refurbishment of the 50-metre pool, a splash and play area, an events space, basketball half court, new and improved accessible toilets and change rooms, a new café and an aquatic adventure play structure with plenty of shade. 

Construction of SWELL continues to meet key construction milestones with the groundworks complete and on track to open to the public at the end of the year. 

The installation of the new and innovative Myrtha System is 40% complete. Myrtha is the latest advance technology in the swimming pool industry. It is a modular system made with stainless steel which essentially connects together to form perfect waterproofing.

The project has supported local industry, with over 50% spent in the Territory, contributing to economic and employment opportunities. 

The project is funded by the Northern Territory Government contributing $7.5 million, the Australian Government, with $5 million secured through the Building Better Regions Fund, as well as and City of Palmerston contributing $6.9 million.
