The festive season is soon to start in Palmerston as installation of the city’s much-loved Christmas display commences this week.

Goyder Square will once again be transformed into a ‘Christmas Wonderland’ offering eight nights of enchanting entertainment; watch the iconic Lighting of the Tree, see spectacular light installations, ride the popular Express Train, catch falling snow and take a visit to Santa’s House to meet the man himself along with his magical elves and reindeers.

City of Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell was delighted the Christmas event is returning.

“Palmerston’s Christmas Wonderland has been one of our most talked about events. Last year’s celebrations brought a new level of Christmas joy to the city, with nearly 14,000 residents and visitors lining up to experience the display. It’s something to experience with your kids, friends, or family, but also together as a community,” she said.

Festivities will open on Saturday 17 December and close on Saturday 24 December, from 5 to 9.30pm each evening.

Council’s ‘Community Christmas Lights Competition’ also returns this year, which will see households put on their best light display. Prizes will be awarded to the Best Illuminated House, People’s Choice and a Random Draw Selection, and this year we have introduced a Best Sustainably Decorated House category. Residents will need to decorate their house and register at Council’s website by Friday 9 December.

“Celebrating Christmas in Palmerston is always a joyful time of the year, and a highlight is looking at the Christmas lights with my family. The houses looked fabulous last year, so I look forward to seeing what our residents have in store for us this year and encourage anyone who decorates their house to keep sustainability in mind,” Mayor Pascoe-Bell said.
