City of Palmerston is working hard to achieve its vision to make Palmerston A Place for People and is proud to be the family city of the Northern Territory.

The Northern Territory Government intends to expand the boundary of the City of Palmerston to include unincorporated land to the north of Palmerston, including Wishart Business Precinct and Northcrest.

City of Palmerston is pleased with the opportunity to welcome new residents, business owners and operators of Northcrest and areas of Wishart, Berrimah and Tivendale to the vibrant and growing community of Palmerston.

This is a great opportunity for Palmerston as it will make Palmerston more diverse. The expansion will provide more infrastructure and service opportunities for businesses and residents over the long term and provide sustainability opportunities for the City.

City of Palmerston is the fastest growing and youngest city in the Territory and we welcome the opportunity to extend our award winning community services to Northcrest residents.

For current residents and ratepayers, the current rating strategy will stay the same and the level of service will stay the same.

Rates paid by Northcrest residents are already guided by City of Palmerston rates and new residents will benefit from Council’s ongoing roll out of projects and services, such as our modern waste recycling and ranger programs.

The municipal boundary review makes good planning sense and aligns with the Northern Territory Government’s Planning for a Vibrant Future document, which states that the City should eventually grow to support more than 70 000 people.

The expansion of City of Palmerston’s municipal boundary fits within Council’s and the region’s vision for long term financial sustainability and growth.

To realise the critical potential economic benefits of unincorporated land, it should be managed by a capable and trusted governing body whose current service provision and long term plans align to the needs and appropriate use of the land.

City of Palmerston is ready to hit the ground running, and can apply its existing planning, governance frameworks, organisational structures and service delivery to best meet the needs of new residents and ratepayers.

We are a Council that engages with our residents and listens to their needs so we can work with the community to make Palmerston the place to be.

Quote from City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell

“City of Palmerston is planning for the current and future economic sustainability challenges and opportunities for its community.
We are always looking for new opportunities to grow and improve Palmerston over the long term for the people who work, live and play here, to make our community the best it can be.

City of Palmerston has a good track record in partnering with developers and businesses to create residential and industrial precincts, including Durack Heights and Zuccoli.

City of Palmerston looks forward to continuing to provide the same great services and community programs for Northcrest residents such as Brekkie in the Park, FlicNics and ranger services.

City of Palmerston fully supports this process.”
