City of Palmerston will launch its very own $220,000 myPalmerston voucher scheme over three rounds starting in September.

The Northern Territory Government offered the funding opportunity to NT local councils and will contribute $160,000 to assist local economic stimulus spending in the Palmerston area.

The scheme follows the successful myDarwin initiative earlier this year that saw local businesses sign up to be part of the program offering monetary discounts to customers, based on their total spend.

“We are extremely excited to bring this local business initiative to Palmerston,” Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell said.  “A range of businesses can participate; we anticipate food outlets, retail stores, beauty services and more.”

“We know our community is doing everything they can during these challenging times and, as a community-minded Council, we are confident this scheme will contribute to a much-needed boost of our economy. Combined with our free parking already within City Centre this is another reason for people to come to Palmerston.”

“It is free for businesses and customers to participate and I encourage everyone to get on board.”

The program will start in September and occur over three stages:

  • Round 1 - $40,000 starting in September 2020
  • Round 2 - $90,000 starting in October 2020
  • Round 3 - $90,000 starting in November 2020

The local community, including Darwin and Rural residents, will be able to register to receive a range of discount vouchers, redeemable at Palmerston businesses, which have signed up to participate in the program.

Each round will continue until all funds are used. myPalmerston is one of many initiatives being delivered by City of Palmerston in response to COVID-19 including holding the costs of rates, all fees and charges, continuing  free entry to the Palmerston Swimming Pool and extending free all-day parking in the city centre until 30 September 2020.

More information on the delivery of the program, conditions of use and how to register will be available at www.palmerston.nt.gov.au/mypalmerston
