We're seeking community feedback on the revised Council Policy, Preserving our Urban Forest.

We recognise that trees are a major asset and play an important role in making Palmerston a liveable, attractive, and healthy city. One of the most frequent contacts that residents have with City of Palmerston is to request tree pruning and tree removal.

The original Preserving our Urban Forest Policy was adopted by Council in September 2020. It established our principles and approach to preserving existing trees located within Council road reserves, parks and open spaces, and defining criteria around how and when trees may be considered for removal.

Key changes in the new, revised policy:

  • Defined criteria around how and when trees may be considered for remedial and maintenance works.
  • Outlining Council’s objectives for tree planting and tree preservation.

This Policy works hand-in-hand with Council’s Community Plan and its commitment to providing an environmentally friendly, liveable city.
