Community starts with a conversation.
We’re doing a health check on our Community Plan to make sure our activities are aligned with the outcomes. The health check will be able to tell us if we need to refresh the content to better meet the needs and values of our community. Your ideas and feedback will help to shape our next chapter.
Community Engagement starts from 1 March - 9 May 2026.

About the Community Plan
The Community Plan was developed in collaboration with the community in 2018 and was reviewed in 2021. It outlines the vision for Palmerston as ‘A Place for People’. This acts as a guide for Council to ensure our work follows the strategic direction and values that you, the community, has set.
The Community Plan sets out 6 core outcomes for Council:
- Family and Community
Palmerston is a safe and family-friendly community where everyone belongs. - Vibrant Economy
Palmerston is a destination city for employment. It is a place where businesses are encouraged to set up and grow. - Cultural Diversity
In Palmerston, we celebrate our cultures in a way that values our diversity. - A Future Focus
Palmerston is an innovative city that sustains itself through the challenges of the future. - Environmental Sustainability
Palmerston is an environmentally friendly, liveable city that promotes renewable practices and sustainability. - Governance
Council is trusted by the community and invests in things that the public value.
Each year, Council aligns its budget and expenditure to deliver on the activities, programs and services towards achieving these outcomes.
You can read the current Community Plan here.
Community Panel
Feedback received from the community will be collated and presented to a Community Panel for discussion. The Community Panel will be a diverse group of community members.
On Sunday 17 May 2026 the Community Panel will take part in a workshop facilitated by independent consultants, DemocracyCo, to review the feedback and provide recommendations to Council for any updates to the Community Plan.
Community members who are selected to be a part of the Community Panel will also receive a $120 voucher for their time and efforts.
For those under the age of 24, an additional $120 voucher is available if they are willing to participate in an additional 1 hour session for the Youth Civicships program. If you are interested in being a part of the Community Panel, you can register your interest here. Registrations close on Sunday 26 April 2026.
