Palmerston Alderman Ben Giesecke will become the City’s next Deputy Mayor, having been elected by his Council colleagues at Council’s ordinary meeting on 4 June 2019.

At its first ordinary meeting as the newly elected Council, Elected Members endorsed the terms for the position of Deputy Mayor to be for a period of five months, allowing the opportunity for all Aldermen to perform the duty.

Alderman Giesecke will be Council’s Deputy Mayor from Sunday 21 July 2019 to Saturday 21 December 2019 (inclusive).

On acceptance, Alderman Giesecke thanked the Elected Members for their support.

“I thank my fellow Aldermen for sharing this opportunity. I’m excited about the good work this Council is doing and look forward to continuing to roll out the commitments we have made as part of the Community Plan, in line with Municipal Plan and Budget 2019/2020. I am looking forward to continuing to serve the community in this new role.”

City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell congratulated Alderman Giesecke on his appointment.

“On behalf of Council I congratulate Alderman Giesecke on his appointment as the upcoming Deputy Mayor. I know he will continue to represent the Palmerston community with great dignity and pride.”

“I also would like to thank outgoing Deputy Mayor Sarah Henderson for her support and hard work during her time in the position,” Mayor Pascoe-Bell added.
