At the 2nd Ordinary Council meeting in March 2026, Councillor Wayne Bayliss was elected by his fellow Councillors to serve as City of Palmerston’s next Deputy Mayor.

Councillor Bayliss will assume the position from 12 April to 5 November 2026.

The Deputy Mayor position rotates every 207 days, providing all Councillors the opportunity to serve in the role during their term. Deputy Mayor Damian Hale has held the position since 16 September 2025, concluding his term on 11 April 2026.

Councillor Bayliss has been an Elected Member of City of Palmerston since last year and is committed to supporting the community and delivering positive outcomes for Palmerston residents.

“I’d like to thank my fellow Councillors for the opportunity to serve as Deputy Mayor. It is a privilege to be entrusted with this responsibility, and I look forward to supporting the Mayor, and working together with Council for the people of Palmerston,” said Councillor Bayliss.

Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell congratulated Councillor Bayliss, saying, “I congratulate Councillor Bayliss on his election to the role of Deputy Mayor and thank him for his continued support. I also acknowledge Deputy Mayor Hale for his service in the role and his ongoing contribution to Council. I look forward to working closely with Councillor Bayliss during his term”.

Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month. The next Council meeting will be held on Tuesday 7 April 2026 at Council Chambers, Civic Plaza, 1 Chung Wah Terrace, Palmerston.

All Council meetings are open to the public, with a public forum held prior to each meeting. The forum provides community members with an opportunity to meet and engage directly with City of Palmerston’s Elected Members.
