Friday 4th April: SWELL Pool Party

Join us at SWELL and “Lift Up Your Voice” to kick off Northern Territory’s Youth Week in Palmerston.

Monday 7th - Friday 11 April: Recording Studio Sessions and open day pizza party

Our library is running recording sessions in the Gulwa Recording Studio. Bookings are essential! This program will be in partnership with local music producer/audio engineer, Danny Christie, Who is a Mix with the Masters graduate having worked alongside Tchad Blake Grammy-winning engineers and has over 20 years of working in the music industry across Europe and Australia.

The purpose of this youth week activity is to provide safe and secure education/entertainment opportunities during NT Youth Week 2025, provide youth-friendly engagement, and involve young people at all levels. The program aims to encourage the development of skills and attributes such as self-esteem, cooperation and trust for young people in a safe environment. This is your chance to bring your creative ideas to life in a professional environment for FREE!

Overview:

Recording studio experience/sessions in the library with a music producer/audio engineer, the program will be structured to allow youth to sign up for time slots, learn about the recording process, and all manners of music production, including songwriting, vocal production, instrument recording, sampling and even podcast recording. All creative audio projects can be covered which include mixing and mastering.

Recording Time: Open to all youth between ages 12-25 who can book a slot to record music, spoken word, or any creative audio projects. Time slot allocation (9am-12pm & 1pm-5pm)

Professional Equipment: Use of high-quality microphones, mixing tools, and sound editing software to create polished recordings. (Pro Tools, Logic Pro)

Guidance and Support: Music producer/audio engineer and library staff to assist and produce content.

Program Roles:

Sound Engineer:

The sound engineer will be responsible for setting up the recording equipment, guiding participants during their recording sessions, and providing expert advice on sound quality, mixing, and editing. They will also facilitate the learning of basic editing techniques and assist in finalizing the recordings.

Library Staff/Program Facilitators:

Library staff will assist in managing registration, maintaining the schedule, and providing general support throughout the week. They may also assist in group activities and ensure the smooth operation of the recording studio.

Participants:

Youth participants will sign up for Recording Studio Experience. Groups sessions to experience hands on recording studio facility. There may be specific time slots to record their music, podcasts, or audio content. They will actively participate in learning the recording process, from setup to editing, and contribute to the final showcase event.
