MC Skills Development Workshop

mc skills
Durack Community Arts Centre and Online

City of Palmerston is offering free workshops for young people (15 years and over) to learn skills to become a Master of Ceremonies or more commonly known as an MC. MCs are the glue that hold live events together including everything from comedy shows, poetry readings, official ceremonies, awards nights, and everything in between. They do a lot more than introduce people - they play a crucial role in the atmosphere, vibe and audience experience. It is also a fun and great way to earn money if you have the skills. City of Palmerston hopes to have a pool of young, skilled MCs that we can draw from in future, so the aims of this workshop is to get you paid and gigs in future.

These workshops are highly practical and taught by two of the most experienced and prolific MCs in the NT, Sarah Reuben (Darwin Festival, NT Writers' Centre & Brown's Mart) and Brent Watkinson (Hot 100, Panel Beaters).

Workshops will cover microphone technique, vocal technique, performing with confidence and clarity and will be hands on, relaxed and very fun. Build your confidence and your employable skills!

Workshops are:

  • Saturday, February 4, 10:30am-12:30pm, Durack Community Arts Centre - 33 Packard Avenue, Durack
  • Sunday, February 5, 10:30am-12:30pm, Durack Community Arts Centre - 33 Packard Avenue, Durack
  • Saturday, Feb 11, 10:30am-12:30pm, (online via Microsoft Teams - link distributed after registration)

Each workshop will build on the previous workshop's content, and so participants are encouraged to attend all 3, but we understand if you are only able to make 1 or 2 in the series.
